-Roman army's elite infantry 
-Recruited exclusivity from citizens 
-Groups of 80's a century

-Rome vs Carthage 
-Three Wars

1st Punic Wars 
-(264-241 BCE)
-Naval Battles on Island of Sicily & Rome Wins

2nd Punic Wars
(218-201 BCE)
-29 year old Hannibal tries to take Rome 
-Attacks from the North 
-Lays siege to much of the peninsula for 15 years 

-3rd Punic Wars
(149-146 BCE)
-Rome wanted to remove the Carthaginians 
-Carthage was burned for 17 days 
-The last 50,000 people left in the city became slaves
