1000 Word Essay

In today's class we didn't take any notes from a power point or watch a movie on Greece, we simply went over the rules and rubric for a 5000 word essay which in term would help us write our 1000 word essay which is between the 3 people in our group. I feel like after going over that essay with the setup of the introduction in the first paragraph which is where you introduce your topic, I feel like I can understand it a little bit more now which will help me write my essay. I feel like I will be a able to do good on this because I will be able to combine my prior knowledge of writing essays and this example of how to write a 5000 one. After seeing this our group should split it up evenly

Other than working on our project we didn't do to much else, one thing that did happen though was that we recieved our pop quizzes back which I did pretty good compared to others. I got a 8 out orf 10 which is good and solid but not great for a quiz I didnt know was coming.

Great Civilizations

Today in class we took notes on a power point in class about a lot of things pertaining to Great civilizations, Greece, and Mycenaeans. One thing that stuck out is that all great civilization have had a large body of water next to them. A couple of definitions that I picked up today were the the word Terra means Earth and that the word Mediterranean means middle of the earth. One fact about the Island of Crete is that it is the biggest Islands in Greece. Some facts about Greece that I learned today...
GREECE
1. 3/4 of Greece is covered with mountains
2. Approximately 1400 islands in the Adriatic, Ionian, and Aegean Sea.
3. Poor  limited natural resources so they needed to trade
4. Greek diet consists of grains, grapes, and olives.
5. Temperature was always pretty nice year round
6. Greek was ARABLE which means good farming

MYCENAEANS

ARISTOTLE

Aristotle was a Greek Philosopher and also a well known Greek scientist born in the great Macedonian city of Stagira. He was also a pretty known figure in historical times of Greece. Aristotle was born in 384 BC and he later died in 322 BC. His education was at the Platonic Academy from the time period of 367 BC to 347 BC. His parents were Nicomachus and Phaestis. Aristotle was affiliated with the Macedonian court for his whole life. In 338 BC Aristotle went back to Macedonia to King Phillips the 2nd son the 13 year old Alexander The Great. When Alexander the Great grew up and eventually became king Aristotle started a school with Alexanders permission and from the rest of his life became a teacher and a researcher. Aristotle believed that knowledge is something that can be obtained through interaction with materials. His theory of deduction is now the basis of what philosophers now call syllogism, which is a logically argument where a conclusion is inferred. This is one of the reasons I now Aristotle is an important person because he has impacted today's science, philosophy, logic, and basically just the way we looked and observe stuff. I also know he is an important figure because he is still wrote about today.

2 Hour Delay

Today we really didn't do anything or go over anything because it was a 2 hour delay. Today in class I had to do my Pyramid challenge which was kinda hard. It was hard because I'm not really a custom to living that life. I didn't finish and I have to finish at home. We also talk about how much snow there would be over the next couple of days in which we are expected to get 5-10 inches.

Cyber day Assignment

Notes:
-Every great civilization has a reliable river.
-For example Mesopotamia has the Tigris and Euphrates, Egypt has the Nile River, China has the Huang He River, and India has the Indus River.
-This also relates to a term called Geographical Luck, this means that the area of land simply has better natural resources all around that area than other areas of land.

Questions:
1.) The significance of the of Greece location is that it has an example of Geographic Luck. It is surrounded by a body of water. This gives the civilization or whoever lives their options to do different things that will help that area such as cooking, cleaning, or hunting.

2.) Greece has a lot of valleys as well as open grass, land, and, plains. Greece is obviously surrounded by a large body of water. There are also a lot of mountains and Islands.

3.) A lot of there surroundings, well actually all of their surroundings is basically water. One way that it affects their culture is that you have to where different clothes such as using lease and trees. Another way is the food they eat would be significantly different from us.

4.) The Ionian Sea, Aegean Sea, Thracian Sea, Sea of Crete, and The Gulf of Corinth surrounded Greece.

5.) The largest island to the south/southeast in Greece is Crete

6.) Athena and Sparta are both very very close to the sea. Athens is a Pan Hellenic sanctuary and Sparta is just a sanctuary.
