Today in class we took notes on a power point in class about a lot of things pertaining to Great civilizations, Greece, and Mycenaeans. One thing that stuck out is that all great civilization have had a large body of water next to them. A couple of definitions that I picked up today were the the word Terra means Earth and that the word Mediterranean means middle of the earth. One fact about the Island of Crete is that it is the biggest Islands in Greece. Some facts about Greece that I learned today...
GREECE
1. 3/4 of Greece is covered with mountains
2. Approximately 1400 islands in the Adriatic, Ionian, and Aegean Sea.
3. Poor limited natural resources so they needed to trade
4. Greek diet consists of grains, grapes, and olives.
5. Temperature was always pretty nice year round
6. Greek was ARABLE which means good farming
MYCENAEANS
1. Influence begin around 2000 BCE
2. Protected by a 20 ft. thick wall
3. Dominated Greece from 1600- 1200 BCE
4. Controlled trade in the region
5. 1400 BCE the invaded Crete and ti Minoan culture & language
